Itinerary Tour From Fes to Marrakech 3 Days
Day 1: Fes – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert
Depart early from Fes and begin your journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains, one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Morocco. Your first stop is in Ifrane, a clean and charming alpine-style town often called the Switzerland of Morocco. Continue to the Cedar Forest of Azrou, where you may encounter the friendly Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. As the journey continues, the landscape slowly transforms from green forests to rocky plateaus and desert scenery. You will pass through the dramatic Ziz Valley, famous for its vast palm groves and traditional fortified villages, stopping at panoramic viewpoints for photos and short walks.
In the afternoon, you arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, you will exchange your vehicle for camels and enjoy a memorable camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes as the sun sets, painting the sand in golden and orange colors. After reaching your desert camp, you will be welcomed with Moroccan mint tea, followed by a traditional dinner. The evening is spent around the campfire, enjoying Berber music, drumming, and stargazing in the silence of the desert.
Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara dunes, one of the most magical moments of the tour. After breakfast at the camp, you may return to the village by camel or by 4×4 vehicle. The journey continues to Rissani, an important historic trading center and the cradle of Morocco’s Alaouite dynasty, where you can explore the local souk if it coincides with market day.
From Rissani, drive through the arid landscapes and small Berber villages toward the spectacular Todra Gorge. Here, towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of a clear river. You will have free time to walk through the canyon, admire the rock formations, and enjoy the refreshing atmosphere. In the afternoon, continue through the scenic road toward the Dades Valley, famous for its winding roads, green oases, and unique rock formations known as the “Monkey Fingers.” Dinner and overnight stay in a charming hotel or riad in the Dades Valley.
Day 3: Dades Valley – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
After breakfast, depart from the Dades Valley and pass through the beautiful Valley of Roses, a region known for its fragrant rose fields and traditional cosmetic products made from rose water and essential oils. Continue to Skoura Oasis, a peaceful palm grove dotted with ancient kasbahs, before arriving in Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa” due to its famous film studios and cinematic landscapes.
You will then visit the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved ksars in Morocco. Walk through its narrow alleys, climb to the top for panoramic views, and learn about its history and use as a filming location for many famous movies. In the afternoon, cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, stopping along the way for photos and short breaks. Arrive in Marrakech in the evening, marking the end of your unforgettable desert adventure.
